Christmas Are Wonderful

On 11 December, a pre-Christmas gathering for disabled women from Tallinn and Harju County takes place. The festive event takes place in the Estonian Chamber of Disabled People, at Toompuiestee 10.

With the help of volunteers and good people of Estonia an entertaining event will be carried out in order to bring joy to the everyday life of women with special needs and also their children with special needs. The evening will be filled with various activities – there will be a Christmassy dinner, musical interludes played by band Pööriöö and Siim Roos on a piano, and Christmas presents.

A majority of the Union members are single women and mothers, who are disadvantaged, unemployed, or in their retirement years with various disabilities, many of whom are also raising a disabled child. For the majority of the women, this is the only bigger event in the year, where they feel warmth and closeness. Already going out of the house and meeting with other women, participating in cultural events, having coffee with someone, and enjoying Friday nights are a big step and event for many of them.

“The aim is to provide disabled women with an opportunity to forget their disability just for one evening and feel the joy of simple things, for example, drinking coffee with other women,” Chairwoman of the Union Keiu Roosimägi says to highlight the importance of the event.

Everyone has the chance to contribute to make the event even more memorable – you can bring food and gifts to the event, or donate a symbolic amount of money to pay for the transport for the disabled and other costs to make the event successful.
